Charming Villages

Nearby are the lovely historic towns of Boalsburg and Bellefonte, where you’ll swear that time stopped during a more quiet and gracious age. Boalsburg’s quaint shops offer unusual and country-themed gift items and more, while Bellefonte with its tree-lined streets, wonderful Victorian homes, and gorgeous Talleyrand Park is another tourist favorite.

If you love hiking, biking, boating, fishing, hunting, camping, or just scenic drives through unparalleled countryside, the State College region offers an exceptional variety of activities and picturesque locales from which to choose. The trout fishing is among the best in the world. The hunting is outstanding. Several state parks, state forests, and lakes are nearby, along with the educational Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center and beautiful Stone Valley Recreation Area.

Black Moshannon State Park

While visiting us here at Mountain Hideaway, take full advantage of the wonderful opportunities provided right next door at Black Moshannon State Park. Enjoy biking, boating or fishing within minutes of our location. Or step out back and connect to one of the many trials that lead throughout the park.

    

Perched on the top of the Allegheny Plateau, Black Moshannon State Park features the Black Moshannon Bog Natural Area. Trails and a boardwalk help people explore the birds and plants of the bog and surrounding forests. Stay overnight to extend your stay so you can explore the beautiful forests on the hiking trails.

Full MapBlack Moshannon State Park covers 3,394 acres of forests and wetlands that provide recreational opportunities for thousands of visitors. The park conserves unique, natural environments and is in Centre County on PA Route 504, nine miles east of Philipsburg. More than 43,000 acres of the Moshannon State Forest surround the park and help create a remote and wild setting.

Family Fun

Be sure to spend a day at Tussey Mountain Family Fun Center, which offers a ton of fun all year round, from go-carts, golf, batting cages, concerts, and a brand-new skatepark during the warmer months, to outstanding skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Later, treat yourself and the kids to a boat tour of the mysterious and fascinating Penns Cave. And if the kids love amusement parks (and what kid doesn’t?), two are within easy driving distance of State College.
